My Review on 'Sonic the Hedgehog': Running Fast with the Blue Speedster
"Gotta go fast"
Sonic the Hedgehog is now playing on cinema and I finally
(and happily) got to see it today. The movie is based on Sega legendary video game of the same name (I remember playing it everyday when I was 9 on Nokia). It
was released internationally on February 14 and officially holds the score of 64%
on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s a fan-favorite as it gets 93% on the audience
score. Wow.

Quick
review to the whole movie! *I won’t write much*
Sonic
the Hedgehog is great with its visual effects, casts, and all video game
references in it. Ben Schwartz, the one who voices Sonic, suits everything well
to his character. No wonder for Jim Carrey who is an absolute legend for
portraying ‘silly’ characters in the past, like The Grinch, The Mask, Riddler,
and many more. Seeing him on that persona again, I’m really excited for him.
Eggman suits him well! The bond between Marsden’s Tom Wachowski and Schwartz’s
Sonic surprisingly goes very smoothly too. Also it is interesting to see Sonic’s
iconic rings on the big screen. Plus, he will go on his-full-potential mode in
this movie.
The
visual effect is also stunning. It is accurate with the ones in video game,
especially Sonic’s hometown. Super flashback of course. But, we sadly will not
get to see much of his hometown, as he will enter the planet Earth and the film
explores 95% his adventure on this blue planet. I like Sonic’s new design which
is more accurate with the original one. To be honest, the previous one was a
bit horrible too, but if they did not change the design, I probably will still
watch it :D

Comparison between the video game and movie |
The
movie’s tone mostly centers on the happy and delightful, definitely it is,
because it is an adventure movie haha. The plot is simple but exiciting, and
family-friendly, with many funny scenes in it, featuring Sonic who keeps
talking about EVERYTHING all the way from the beginning until the end of the
movie.
The
soundtrack composed by Tom Holkenborg (Divergent,
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel), also
known as Junkie XL, blends entirely well with the scenes and situations. Been
a fan of him since 2016 and he is surely the master of composing adventurous
scores.
At
last, stay tune to the post-credit scene, because there is SOMETHING or SOMEONE hoho.
It’s most likely we will get a sequel!
*Praying circle*
It is very enjoyable to watch with your friends or family, or just by yourself. For me, it’s 7.2/10. Also, if you were once his fan on the video game, it is a MUST SEE. Nothing’s wrong with a 99-minutes of throwback, eh?
Thank
you and happy watching!
Yassss!! Gotta watch the movie
